Removing the “Powered by Shopify” Text from Theme

Setting up your brand new Shopify store? Newbies are most likely to use the free theme that is available in the Shopify Theme store and needless to say, the free theme is great for a good startup of the site and is pretty much neatly laid out with good designs. Free themes come with a small text “Powered by Shopify” sticking in the footer section of every page. Of course, our site is powered by Shopify and that is what we are paying for every month and hence our customers need not know that the site is being implemented with Shopify platform. Every such store owner would want to chuck out this text from the site. Today we will look into the ways we can remove the “Powered by Shopify” text.

There are two ways you can remove the “Powered by Shopify” text.

Method 1: Using Theme’s Language Settings:

 Login to Shopify Panel.

→ Under the Sales Channels, click on Online Store -> Themes.

→ In the Current Theme section, click on the Actions dropdown and click on the Edit Languages option.

→ In the Filter search box, enter the word “powered” and press Enter to search. In the “Powered by Shopify” text field, just type an empty space “ ” and click on the Save button. This should have the “Powered by Shopify” text removed from the frontend.

Method 2: Changing code in footer.liquid (Sectioned Theme):

→ Login to Shopify panel.

→ Under the Sales Channels, click on Online Store -> Themes.

→ In the Current Theme section, click on the Actions dropdown and click on the Edit Code option.

→ Inside the Sections folder, click on the liquid file.

→ This would open up the footer.liquid file. Use Ctrl + F to search for the word “powered_by_link”. Once you locate the tag: {{ powered_by_link }}, remove it and click on the Save button to save the template.

Method 2: Changing code in theme.liquid (Non-Sectioned Theme):

→ Login to Shopify panel.

→ Under the Sales Channels, click on Online Store -> Themes.

→ In the Current Theme section, click on the Actions dropdown and click on the Edit Code option.

→ This would open up the footer.liquid file. Use Ctrl + F to search for the word “powered_by_link”. Once you locate the tag: {{ powered_by_link }}, remove it and click on the Save button to save the template.
